Preacher's kids are notorious for being wild and/or disobedient. I have stories my mother told me about parties her siblings had when Johan Albert Edward Axelson was on his three-week circuit in wester Iowa around the turn of the 19th century. My mom was the last of six, and her siblings were 6, 12, 13, 16, and 18 when she was born. Those teenage boys had parties where they smoked cigarettes, drank alcohol and danced! They also teased their mom by hanging her bras on the kerosene lamps hanging on the walls. I learned recently from my beloved cousin Loretta, who is 10 years older than me, that John made them clean the church after services. They took the gum from under the pews and chewed it, because they weren't allowed to have it otherwise.
